In the Lancaster Mission Conference last February, Rev Brett Murphy made a brilliant speech about reaching young people in Lancaster and surrounding regions. Here is his message:
Rev Murphy is pastor at Emmanuel church in Morecambe and is quietly demonstrating via his Youtube channel that it is possible to speak to young and old on YouTube, gathering them to hear and respond to the pure word of God.
Young people in Europe are turning towards the right, and there is an opportunity for the Gospel as young people are searching for enlightenment and instruction from sources that are vaguely associated with the West’s history, rather than those who seem to be speculative at best, and self seeking at worst, in educating them about right and wrong, wisdom and folly. They would love to hear from the Lord Jesus Christ, if we can insert ourselves into the discussion halls and discussion forums to which young people are now flocking, looking for a word of hope. Let us connect in appropriate ways with youth groups such as Urban Saints, NISCU, individual church youth groups, Christian Union, Revive!, and I urge us to make strategic partnerships for training (modifying adult trainings appropriately).
I urge and encourage us to establish and participate in Bible based discussions that will provide what young people are looking for
